Roofing in Kern County

Kern County roofs fail differently from coastal ones. Bakersfield sees roughly seven inches of rain a year, essentially all of it between November and March, with brutal heat and intense UV the rest of the time. That means thermal cycling and UV degradation do most of the damage, and it is why reflective coatings and metal roofing both perform unusually well here.

Heat and UV, not water, are the main enemy

Near-zero summer rain and sustained extreme heat mean roofs here age from the sun. Reflective surfaces genuinely reduce cooling load, which is a real dollar argument on a commercial building rather than a marketing line.

A lot of manufactured and mobile home stock

The Kern River Valley in particular has a large manufactured-home population, which is roofing most contractors handle badly or decline. Standing seam metal is often the right answer and we install it.

Wildland interface across the valley

Lake Isabella, Kernville, and much of the Kern River Valley fall within designated wildfire hazard areas where Class A assemblies and ember-resistant detailing apply. Designations changed in 2025 — verify your parcel.

City and county permitting differ

Inside Bakersfield city limits, permits go through the city. Ridgecrest runs its own building department. Lake Isabella, Kernville, and the unincorporated valley go through Kern County.
